exhibited: Aleksandra Jachtoma. Lights and Windows, Boguta Art, 2025
Aleksandra Jachtoma (b. 1932 in Barchaczow) Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and then in Warsaw, where she received a diploma with distinction in the studio of Kazimierz Tomorowicz in 1958. She was a member of the Warsaw group "Rekonesans" founded in 1963.
Aleksandra Jachtoma has been searching for the deepest essence of light and color in all the years of her work. Aleksandra Jachtoma's paintings are characterized by ascetic disciplined composition built from condensed uniform patches. The mathematical rigor in them is softened by the delicacy of color solutions emanating streaks of light. Lapidarity of geometric forms (ovals, rectangles) and uniformity of color tones give these compositions a muted, poetic, even contemplative character. This feature accounts for the originality of the artist's works.
Researchers situate Jachtoma's work in the orbit of the search of important Polish abstractionists such as Stefan Gierowski, Wojciech Fangor and Jan Berdyszak, as well as international artists: Mark Rothko or Yves Klein.
She has participated in more than 80 group exhibitions and nearly 30 solo exhibitions. She was awarded the Prize of the Minister of Culture of Art for a lifetime of creative work (1987), the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Prize and the Jan Cybis Prize of the Warsaw District of the Association of Polish Artists (2003).
