DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Wlastimil Hofman's art drew inspiration from the symbolist painting of Jacek Malczewski. The artist gave seemingly generic compositions an elaborate content.
The painting depicts a frequent theme in Wlastimil Hofman's art of children against a landscape background. The work is characterized by portrait-like framing, pastel color range and melancholic mood. The faces have been rendered in detail, with sensitivity to color. Noteworthy is the winter landscape, in which, in addition to the depicted tree silhouettes, two figures were depicted at an undefined activity.
The formal layer, but also the composition itself, indicate that the presented work comes from the interwar period, which is the most valued by collectors of Wlastimil Hofman's art.
