Biography
He was a painter, draughtsman and art critic. He continued his painting education, which began at W. Gerson's Drawing Class in Warsaw, from 1889, at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, and also studied at the Munich academy. From 1891 he lived permanently in Warsaw. He was a member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, where he exhibited his works several times a year. In addition, he was the initiator of the so-called spring exhibitions at the Art Salon in Warsaw. He became famous primarily as a landscape painter. His specialty was atmospheric landscapes, painted at different times of the day and year. Popowski's paintings were very popular on the art market and before the war were in many private collections; they were also purchased during the artist's lifetime for the collections of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts and the National Museum in Cracow.
