Biography
He came from a family of Orthodox Jews. He studied first in Berlin (1916) and Florence (1922) and then in Rome (1923-1927). From 1927 to 1929 he stayed in Paris where he was a member of the Union of Polish Artists in France. In 1932 he was one of the founders of the New Generation group. He took part in the September campaign. He spent the occupation in a camp. From 1947 to 1950 he taught at the University of Munich and in 1950 emigrated to Australia, where he spent the rest of his life and was most successful as an artist. He lived in Sydney and taught painting in his studios in Bellevue Hill and Woollahra. His works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia and the Museum of Art in Lodz, among others. Feuerring's expressionistic visions are filled with complex symbolism and personal experiences. He painted nudes and landscapes, built up with jittery brushstrokes and bright, contrasting colors.
