Józef Wodziński (1859-1918) - painter of historicist salon and costume scenes and seaside landscapes, a popular illustrator for German and English magazines - initially studied with Wojciech Gerson and Aleksander Kaminski in Warsaw. He then studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1878-1881, at the Munich Academy in 1881-1884, and later still in Vienna. He settled permanently in Munich, from where he moved to Berlin after 1900. He enjoyed considerable success "gaining laurels and recognition on the Spree." He also sent his works to national exhibitions, including the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts and the Warsaw Zachęta Society.
