Biography
Jan Zamoyski is one of the most outstanding painters associated with the circle of artists centered around Tadeusz Pruszkowski. He studied in 1921-1922 at the Municipal School of Decorative Arts in Warsaw under Władysław Skoczylas and Miłosz Kotarbiński, later in 1923-1928 in the studio of Tadeusz Pruszkowski. He was a co-founder of the Brotherhood of St. Luke and its president until 1939. He participated in all the exhibitions of this group and exhibited at the Salons of the Institute of Art Propaganda and the ZAP Block in Warsaw. He also exhibited a lot abroad - in Pittsburgh, Venice, New York, Beijing. He painted genre paintings, historical scenes, religious compositions, portraits, characteristic types. Concerned with the perfection of the painting technique, following the example of the old masters, he carefully reproduced all the details of the subject, precisely modeled the likeness of a living model, combining all this skillfully with aptly chosen colors.
