7.8 x 24.0 cm - oil, board signed p.d.: J. Konarski
On the reverse near the upper edge (black marker): JAN KONARSKI
Works by an unknown artist, associated with the Munich school of painting at the turn of the 20th century and signing his works with the name J. Konarski, appear quite often on the art market. These paintings indicate that they were inspired primarily by his familiarity with the work and works of Alfred Wierusz Kowalski. By some researchers, this painter Konarski is even identified with this outstanding artist. In our opinion, wrongly, since he definitely does not match him either artistically or in terms of painting technique. (See: H-P. Bühler, Jäger, Kosaken und polnische Reiter, Hildesheim 1993, p. 128). More convincing seems to be the recently put forward hypothesis of Konarski's identity with the little-known "Polish Munich painter" Franciszek Bujakiewicz (b.1856 - d. during the years of World War I)
