Biography
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Józef Unierzyski and Leon Wyczółkowski, and then trained at the Académie Julian in Paris in the class of Jean-Paul Laurens. Starting in 1903, he often traveled to the Hutsul region, which became an important source of inspiration in his work. In 1912-19 he was a professor of painting at the Royal Academy of Arts and Crafts in Breslau. From 1919 he headed the School of Decorative Arts and Arts Industry in Poznan. He was later appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He belonged to the Society of Polish Artists "Art" and other creative associations. He painted genre scenes of Hutsul life, religious compositions, portraits, still lifes and landscapes.
