Biography
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Jacek Malczewski and Wojciech Weiss. In 1922, he moved to Paris. During his stay in France he exhibited a lot, among other things: at the Paris salons Autumn and Independent. In 1939 he returned to Poland; he took the chair of drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and from 1945 was the rector of the Academy. From 1950-19 he was a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. After the war, he participated in many prestigious exhibitions around the world. He received a Guggenheim Museum award in 1960 During his Paris period, he painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits close to the style of Chaim Soutine. In his later years, he confirmed his affiliation with the colorist movement.
