Anton HOFFMANN
1863 Bayreuth - 1938 Munich
German painter and illustrator, active in Munich. From 1889 to 1895 he studied at the local Academy of Fine Arts under Gabriel Hackl and Wilhelm von Diez. From his early youth, he collaborated as an illustrator with the magazine Fliegenden Blätter, and later also with Latern and Das Bayerland. He was also an illustrator for school textbooks and youth publications. He painted primarily soldier historical scenes, often drawing on motifs from the Thirty Years' War or the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. Beginning in 1896, he exhibited his paintings many times, including at Munich's Glaspalast and in Berlin (from 1909).
