Sear David R. - Roman coins and their values vol I, The republic and twelve caesars 280 BC - AD 96, London 2017, ISBN 9781902040356.

532 pages, hardcover with wrapper, illustrations and drawings, valuation for two/three states of preservation, very nicely preserved. The original edition of Sear's Roman Coins and Their Values was published by Seaby decades ago and went through four revisions (1970, 1974, 1981 and 1988). The current publication of the "millennium edition" of this popular work, however, represents a radical departure from previous editions.
The first volume covers the period of the Republic and the reign of the 12 Caesars Entries in the catalog have been expanded to include a virtually complete list of coins of the Roman Republic, as well as a more comprehensive rearrangement of the complexities of minting since the founding of the first known Roman mint in 269 BC. More emphasis is now placed on precise chronology and where coins were minted, and the comprehensive coverage includes important series of coins minted in Alexandria over a period of more than 300 years. Valuations (at the time of printing) have been exhaustively researched based on recent auction records and catalogs with set prices, and after consultation with professional numismatists. Prices (in both British pounds and US dollars) are now expressed in two or three degrees of preservation for each entry, usually "VF" and "EF" for precious metal issues and "F," "VF" and "EF" for imperial bronzes. Perhaps most importantly for the collector, the number of photographic illustrations in the text has been increased and their quality improved. Expanding the material on such a scale inevitably led to the need to divide the work into more than one volume.

Today, one of the best reference tools on Roman minting for both novice and experienced collectors.
