Condition: -very good. Minor scratches on the back of the binding.
Bibliophile print, hand-printed on handmade paper in an edition of 150 numbered copies (this one no. 19, signed by the author and publisher). Includes original linocuts.
Enclosed is the original envelope of the publisher, Polander Press, together with an unfilled form confirming the order for a luxury edition in the amount of $180 and 3 photographs of the work on card form. A4. Also enclosed is a letter from the publisher, addressed to "[...] lovers of a beautiful Polish book," in which this edition is described as follows:
"Mare Nostrum, published by POLANDER PRESS, is a truly bibliophilic undertaking, following in the beautiful tradition of books published by Samuel Tyszkiewicz in his Florence and Nice outhouse. [...] The volume is illustrated with six original linocuts by young Greenpoint artist Tomasz Burasiewicz, who hand-printed and colored them. The bookbinding work was done by Wladyslaw Zajac of Krakow [...]".
Józef Łobodowski (1909-1988) - Polish poet, prose writer, translator and publicist. Winner of the Young People's Prize of the Polish Academy of Literature for 1937. Awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by Edward Raczynski, President of the Polish Republic in exile, for "many years of activity in the field of Polish culture."
