Józef Czekalski, (1865-1906) was a lawyer by education. He worked as a sworn lawyer. By passion he was a writer and poet. In 1887, a collection of his poetry was published entitled: "In Shackles." In the 1890s he translated Rudyard Kipling's "The Book of the Wilderness" and "The Second Book of the Wilderness." Jozef Czekalski, for his independence activities, was exiled with his family deep into Russia.
