Franciszek Stirba de Stirbitz (1780-1832), MD, born in Nowy Sącz, son of a physician. He completed his medical studies in Vienna in 1808. He practiced medicine in Nowy Sacz, and in 1814 was appointed spa physician in Krynica, as the first Polish-speaking physician, where he presided for the summer months. He contributed to the modernization of the spa facilities and the development of an English-style park and the construction of a promenade. On the basis of his observations, in 1816 he published a work in Polish and German on the indications and contraindications for treatment with Krynica's waters, and studied the properties of Krynica's mineral waters and measured the springs. He contributed to the popularization of stays in Krynica by improving road infrastructure. Rare.
