"Memoirs and Characteristics" by M. Winawer (1863-1926) - a Warsaw-born and educated lawyer, politician, patron and collector of fine arts. Living and working in St. Petersburg, as a lawyer he became an active defender of persecuted Jews. He was a co-founder of the Constitutional Democratic Party (the so-called Cadet Party), which he represented in the Duma. In the book presented here, he mentions his cooperation and contacts with prominent politicians, lawyers, writers of the time, both Russians, Poles and Jews. Dedicated to Belmont (1865-1941), a Polish writer, poet, translator, graduate of the same university as the author, before the revolution a lawyer in St. Petersburg, Winawer made his dedication in 1926, when he was already in exile in Paris.
