Slight folding of the last pages of vol. 1, otherwise very good condition. Ex-librises "De la bibliothèque du Chateau de la Grange", own entries from 1852 in vols. 1-3, on front cover of vol. 1 gilded inscription "Beaupreau, 27 Jullet 1852". The four-volume "History of the Crusades" in its seventh edition. Each volume decorated with intaglio engravings, the last volume includes a fold-out map of the Mediterranean. The binding was done by a Polish bookbinder operating in Paris, Wincenty Kisiel (small gilt signature at the bottom of the spine of vol. 1: "Kisiel"). Binding: dark green half-leather, spines rounded, with scrolls highlighted in line gilt, in the second field the author's name and title of the work, in the fourth field the volume number; in the remaining fields gilt rectangular rosettes. Covers closed with double linear gilt. Marbled boards, trimming decayed. A bookbinder, unknown by name at the time, is mentioned by A. Semkowicz: "a descendant of governors, he successfully practiced bookbinding [in Paris], and his products were even highly valued among the French" ("Introligatorstwo", Kr. 1948, p. 183), the information is repeated by A. Klossowski in "Na obczyźnie. People of the Polish book", Wr. 1984, p. 53. The most information about the Polish artist-introligators operating abroad is cited by W.
