Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) - American politician, 32nd President of the United States, elected to the office four times between 1933 and 1945 on behalf of the Democratic Party. The only U.S. president in history to serve more than two terms in office, which led to the enactment in 1951 of the XXII Amendment to the Constitution, limiting the number of terms to two (before that it was only a constitutional convention based on the decision of the first U.S. president George Washington to forgo seeking a third term, claiming that it would be undemocratic).
