PLAN of the zoological garden warszawa. Warsaw. [193?] Printed by Rotofot Warsaw intaglio.
Format:13x18.5cm. Pages:8.
Very good state of preservation.
Brochure advertising the Warsaw Zoo, graphically designed by Henryk Stażewski. Photomontage compositions on four pages, zoo plan on the middle two pages.
"After 1930, Stażewski more often makes less ambitious, profit-making works of a purely utilitarian, advertising nature. These works are often unsigned, and therefore of fully unproven authorship. Most likely, a couple of them adorned the Przegląd Organizacji (Organization Review), which had been coming out since 1925, and for which, in 1932, Stażewski designed the cover accompanying a brochure by Kazimierz Barliński entitled Organization of a Modern Office. Overloaded with a lot of details, it is not among the artist's best works. Far more favorable than it is the unsigned, freely constructed cover of the second issue of "Przeglad" from 1934, decorated with a photograph of an office closet, possibly identical to the one Stażewski showed in 1928 at the Modernists' Salon. The artist's purely typographic layouts seem to be few in number anymore, increasingly turning to photomontage. In most cases, these are small projects of an advertising nature, such as a charming leaflet advertising the Warsaw Zoo."
