Luxuriously issued, exquisite book dedicated to King Louis XV of France and his mistress Jeanne Antoinette Poisson (after her husband Le Normant d'Étiolles), who went down in history as the Marquise de Pompadour. Art binding by Marius Michel (1846-1925), one of the most important French bookbinders of the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly valued for his perfect technique of leather engraving and incising, and winner of the Grand Prix at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. In 1918. Marius Michel handed over his workshop to another giant of French bookbinding art, Georges Cretté (1893-1969). Very good condition! A beautiful book and copy!
