France, Paris, Henry CAHIEUX (1825-1854) - design, 19th/20th century.
In the base, a square plinth on which is placed a quadruped with animal paws; above, a slender amphora with female masks at the base of the handles; columnar stem, cannelled, topped with six arms in the shape of ancient olive lamps, with bulb holders in the form of candles.
Signature on the belly of the amphora at the bottom: "HENRY CAHIEUX - F. BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR".
A skilled decorator, Cahieux collaborated around the mid-19th century with Barbedienne's famous Paris foundry, designing decorative vases, candelabras and lamps, stylistically referring to classical designs, using motifs of Greek and Egyptian art. The foundry also reproduced these designs in later years.
