[MILITARY, Uniforms]. A collection of articles, excerpts, press clippings other handwritten and reproduced texts concerning uniforms mainly of the Polish army, from the London archive of Andrzej Zaremba
Good to very good condition. The collection consists of:
1. notebook: "Notes on uniforms, weaponry and general military matters", vol. 2, London 1953, p. 175, the rest unsigned - manuscript notes by A. Zaremba with his several drawings
2. notebook: "Campagne de l'Empereur Napoleon en Espagne (1808-1809" by D. Balagny, p. [112] - handwritten French excerpts, Polish translations of passages and summaries
3. folder: "Polish formations in the Hungarian uprising of 1848/49. Polish formations in Turkey" - here, among others, "Polish Light Horse Regiment of the Guard 1807-15" in manuscript (18 k.), photocopy of printed daily order of Gen. W Zamoyski dated Aug. 31, 1856 in Skutari, typescript and color drawing of "A fur collar and a cargo carrier of Ottoman Cossacks from the period 1861-1869," typescript "Excerpt from 'Autobiography of Feliks Baranski'" from the manuscript of Bibliot. Polish in Paris (7 k.)
4. folder: "L'Armée du Grand Duché de Varsovie. (Emplacements et situations des Polonais)" - contains largely manuscript materials in French, mainly extensive lists of personnel
5. folder: "L'Armée du Grand Duché de Varsovie. (Uniforme) - here, among other things, a copy of J. Poniatowski's order authorizing the wearing of "worn-out uniforms" (original at W. Borzobochaty in Paris), a hand-painted "cap to the small uniform of an officer of the Polish Lansiers", numerous detailed extracts on uniforms from books, magazines, own descriptions of museum objects
6. folder: "L'Armée du Grand Duché de Varsovie. (Histoire)" - contains, among other things, the 1959 issue of the bulletin of the Regimental Circle of the 9th Regiment of Lesser Poland Lancers "Nine" with materials relating to the regiment founded in 1809, a manuscript copy of "Grand Duché de Varsovie. Liste des Officiers-geneaux, superieurs et subaltavines de l'Etat-Major", other personnel lists, a clipping from the émigré "White Eagle": "Poles as Napoleonic prisoners of war in Scotland".
7. folder: "Black Eagle" - inside reproduced article by C. Norman "The Army of the Duchy of Warsaw, 1807-1813" (8 p., plate 6)
8. folder: "Les Polonais pendant 100 jours" - here, among others, a separate group "Northern Legion".
9. folder: "Pedigrees" - includes a photocopy of J. Wielhorski's work "Pedigrees of the units of the Polish crown authorament, including the crown national cavalry; their filiation, branch continuity, nomenclature, numbering [...] 1773-1794" published under manuscript rights in 1969 in Canada (p. 74 and maps)
10. folder: "Hernik" - containing materials, mostly typescript, concerning M. Hernik's new discoveries regarding the uniforms of the Polish army in Saxon times, including excerpts from M. Hernik's letters to A. Zaremba.
In addition, the group includes, among others: an article by A. Zaremba, "Umundurowanie Legii Nadwiślańskiej. I: Ułani Legii Nadwiślańskiej 1802-1808 c.d." as an excerpt from "Arms and Colors" of 1963, a copy of the "Schedule of Muster for each day of the week during the months of November, December and January for the 1st and 2nd squadrons", a photocopy of the "Soldier's Booklet of the Gallic-French Cavalry", a manuscript of "Polish Corps in the Russian Army 1793-1794" compiled. based on an article by W. Dzwonkowski, a board with the colors of the various formations of the army of the Warsaw Principality made by S. Kobielski, boards with uniforms (taken out of publications, their copies or redrawings). The assemblage presented here consists of about 963 printed or inscribed cards.
