August Oktawian Wrześniowski (born March 22, 1836 in Radom, died May 16, 1892 in Warsaw[1]) - Polish zoologist, lawyer, popularized Darwin's theory of evolution, founder of Polish protozoology. In 1864-1889 he was a professor at the Warsaw Main School, then at the Imperial University of Warsaw. He was a member of numerous national and international scientific societies and the Tatra Society.
Jozef Nusbaum stated that August Wrześniowski was one of the first to preach the principles of evolutionism from the lectern in Poland; and that he succinctly, supremely clearly and critically lectured on the fundamentals of Darwin's theory.
As an activist of the Tatra Society, August Wrześniowski, in his work Tatry i Podhalanie (The Tatras and the Highlanders), published by the Warsaw Athenaeum in 1881 and reprinted a year later in the Memoirs of the Tatra Society, mentions highland songs, giving examples of them.
