A richly illustrated history of Silesian monasteries and church foundations from their inception until their abolition in 1810, written, as the author himself declares, "sine ira et studio," i.e., without anger or bias (presumably as a Protestant Prussian). Numerous copperplate engravings by Friedrich Gottlob Endler (1763-1822) depict nuns and monks in cloistered habits. Separate treatment was given to abolished monasteries and those allowed by the Prussians to exist after 1810.
