BINDING
Wincenty Witos (born January 21, 1874 in Wierzchosławice, died October 31, 1945 in Cracow) - Polish politician, activist of the people's movement, three-time prime minister of the Republic of Poland.
"Many years have passed since the death of Wincenty Witos. As time passes, his figure is not diminishing, not receding, but growing. The seeding of several decades of his life's work is manifested today in the steadfastness of the peasants, in their commitment to the ideals of freedom, democracy and an independent state, in their patriotism and resistance against the enslavement of the nation, the injustice and oppression of the citizen and the trampling of his dignity and rights.
It is good that his memoirs are being published in the free world, when, unfortunately, they have not been allowed to appear in the country so far, despite the strenuous efforts of publishers and the widespread expectations of the reading masses in Poland." From the preface
"Moje wspomnienia - the title of Wincenty Witos' memoirs published in Warsaw in 1978 by the People's Publishing Cooperative. The edition is based on the authorized typescript, which is in the Library of the Ossoliński National Institute.
The work is an important source for the history of the Galician countryside, the peasant movement and Polish political history. It also gives a description of the socio-economic position, daily life and mentality of peasants at the turn of the 20th century.
