VAUTRIN Hubert - L'observateur en Pologne. Paris 1807; Giguet et Michaud. 8, pp. VII, [1], 484. psk. period binding, stained trim.
Slight rubbing of covers, good condition. Stamp. "C. Pawlikowski" under the nobleman's crown. Poland, its natural conditions, government, inhabitants, customs as seen through the eyes of the French Jesuit and writer, tutor to the son of Elisabeth Sapiezina. The most valuable part of the book is the picture of Polish society at the end of the 18th century, embellished with many details and anecdotes. A picture, it should be added, subjective and full of stereotypes, often unfair. This is how we were seen in Western Europe.
