Antoni Urban ski (1873-1950) - Polish art historian, academic, author of many articles and Mementa kresowe - a series of books published in the 1920s about manors in the Eastern Borderlands, destroyed or lost by their owners as a result of the significant truncation of the territory of the Republic after it regained its independence.

From the introduction: "I only want to keep these manors of Lithuania and Rus in people's memory, to know about them. So that they constitute a thread with our past. I want to give the places where historical trails lay, there was a lush and colorful past, there were the same people. (...) In these villages and manors there were marbles by Antoni Canova, Pampelloni, Chapu, there were paintings by Sassoferatt, Reni, there were bronzes by Barbedienna, Thomir, there were books from five centuries ago, but there was something else - a heart open to the path and loving Poland. Today the lights have gone out in these manors, and only wounds remain. The hosts have left the manors for an unknown distance, but the village is dreaming to them. They would like to return to their land at least for a while, to penetrate it, to drink its fragrance. After all, they have the right to do so, after all it is their paternal land. Despite the treaties, they want to return and lift their settlements again from the rubble. Let not the cobweb of oblivion veil these lands longing and strong."

A colorful story describing Polish estates outside the borders of the Second Polish Republic from Abramovsk, through Nemyrov, Polotsk, Tereshki to Zivotka. It is part of the so-called "Borderland Memento" series of four monographs by Antoni Urbanski.
