Tuwim's debut was compared to that of Mickiewicz, and his poems to the paintings of Cezanne. When the Picadorians declared the dictatorship of the poetariat, he spearheaded a poetic revolution. He wrote hundreds of poems and songs that are delightful to this day, and his works for children are still unrivaled in Polish children's literature. His friends and competitors called him the prince of poets, his enemies repelled him with the epithet , "Jew," and he called Polish his homeland.
