The introduction was written by Maria Dabrowska, Stempowski's longtime partner. The author, born in 1870 in Huta Czernielewicka in Podolia to a wealthy landed gentry family, was a freeman, publicist, social and educational activist, and father of essayist Jerzy Stempowski. He died in 1952 in Warsaw.
