Condition: rubbed corners of covers, loss of lower part of spine, partial browning of covers, block cracked in one place, minor stains.
Pieces features: on the inside of the front pastedown, ownership signature "A. Mickiewicz", below it an inscription by another hand: "24 Décembre 1836 - Paris. / Aleksander Jełowicki." On the title page an illegible monogram signature. Also, on the inside of the front pastedown a two-color ducal heraldic sticker (French?), on the adjacent pastedown a handwritten period entry: "Mademoiselle, je me présente tout seul auprès de vous pour m'informer de vos sentiments".
Comment: second part of a four-volume edition of Molière's works. Two-color title card in black and red. This volume contains 8 dramas:La Princesse d'Elide (The Princess Elis), Le Mariage forcé (The Marriage Forced), L'Amour médecin (Love the Doctor), Le Misanthrope (The Misanthrope); Dom Juan, ou le Festin de Pierre (Don Juan); Le Médecin malgré lui (The Doctor Despite His Will), Le Sicilien, ou L'Amour peintre (The Sicilian, or Love the Painter), Amphitryon (Amphitryon). Each drama is provided with a separate title page with the same publishing address as on the volume title, and a single copperplate engraving illustrating the action of the play. Engravings unsigned.
