Michal Sokolnicki - prominent Polish historian, diplomat, politician and close associate of Jozef Pilsudski. In 1919, he was part of the Polish delegation to the Paris Peace Conference. He subsequently served as a diplomat in Great Britain, Finland, Denmark and Turkey.
The offered work is regarded as one of the best studies of the November Uprising and the Polish-Russian War of 1830-1831. Sokolnicki presents with incredible insight the causes, course and consequences of the largest uprising of the Polish nation at the time of the partitions, an independence uprising directed against the Russian invaders. A war in which for ten months 140,000 people waged a battle against Europe's greatest military power, with serious but temporary successes.
