[SILESIA]. Sommersberg Friedrich Wilhelm. Lipsiae, Sumptibus Michaelis Huberti, Bibliopolae Wratislaviensis, 1729. [4] k., 1084 p., [14] f.; 2°. Period parchment binding.

Estr. XV-XVIII, 29, 79-81. The first of three volumes of a monumental history of Silesia covering the times from the first Piasts to the author's contemporaries. For the most part, it is actually a history of Polish-Piast Silesia. It consists of the following parts: 1) works of chroniclers and historians; 2) two studies by the author on the history of Silesia and the genealogy of the Silesian princes; 3) a list of important Silesian documents and legal acts, and a diplomat (a collection of official documents). Among the works of chroniclers and historians cited are "Chronica Polonorum" by Jan Długosz, the anonymous "Chronica principum Poloniae cum eorum gestis" or excerpts from Nicolaus Henel's work "Chronica Ducatus Monsterbergensis et territorii Francosteinensis". The author's genealogical study includes 7 genealogical tables of Silesian princes. The list of important Silesian documents and legal acts includes client lists, alliances, matrimonial contracts, purchases and sales, pacts, treaties, monastic foundations and endowments, as well as documents issued by German emperors, popes and Bohemian kings, and addressed to princes, principalities and cities; documents pertaining to all of Silesia are separated (e.g.including those issued as far back as Casimir the Great), the bishopric of Wroclaw, the duchies of Cieszyn, Oleśnica, Opawa, Żagań, Ziębice, Świdnica-Jawor, Głogów, Racibórz, Wrocław, Legnica-Brzeg, the city of Wrocław, the remaining cities of Silesia - a total of 360 documents of various kinds.

Rubbing, losses, cracks of the binding - requires bookbinding treatments. Slight traces of moisture on the pages here and there, otherwise a very nice and clean block.

Friedrich Wilhelm Sommersberg (1698-1756) - Breslau historian, poet, state councillor, senior of the Breslau City Council and mayor, author of treatises on Silesian historiography and genealogy, and numerous poems on Silesia, including a rhymed work in German Das glückseelige Schlesien (1719) .
