Karol Adolf Beyer - Polish photographer, numismatist. The first professional photographer in Warsaw, known as the "father of Polish photography." Between 1844 and 1867 he ran a photographic establishment in Warsaw, located successively on Senatorska Street, Warecka Street and Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, where he took mainly portraits. He photographed Warsaw residents and visitors from all over the country, representatives of various circles, mainly intelligentsia and bourgeoisie, less often landed gentry and peasants. He also immortalized views of cities, including Warsaw, Krakow, Czestochowa, Gdansk, Malbork and Lodz; these photographs are today a valuable document of their appearance at the time. Karol Beyer was also passionate about numismatics and archaeology. In 1856, the Warsaw Numismatic Society was founded on his initiative. He exposed the counterfeiting of coins by Jozef Majnert, from whom he bought back the forged stamps. He marked the forged coins he managed to detect with the inscription FALSUS.

Reissue of the work published in 1973 by the Polish Archaeological and Numismatic Society, and the Numismatic Commission.
