In view of the lack of funds for the nearly three-kilometer-long Vistula cross-cut planned in 1904 to protect the city and surrounding communities from the effects of flooding, Eng. Sikorski developed an alternative, more economical project. He assumed the construction of a 1.7-kilometer-long canal from the monastery in Zwierzyniec to the mouth of the Wilga River. This project, too, did not live to see implementation.
