Volume one opens with a striking frontispiece with a view of the Wawel courtyard; aquatint signed J. G. Mansfold sc., Viennae" (Banach III 336b). "This work, written on the basis of extensive Polish and foreign literature (Solski, Wąsowski, Rogaliński, Świtkowski), consists of three parts contained in volume one. Part One is devoted to aesthetics in architecture, Part Two talks about the layout of buildings, and Part Three contains news about building materials and construction techniques. The appendix to part two includes three chapters on bridge construction. The second volume of the architectural work of Sebastian Sierakowski (1743-1824), rector of the Jagiellonian University and author of many Warsaw and Cracow architectural projects, contains a title page and 114 copperplate engravings divided into four parts with separate numbering, depicting architectural objects (columns, roofs, cornices, heads, ornaments, arches, windows, doors, mosaics, bridges, viaducts, stairs, squares, chimneys, vaults, roof trusses). At the end is a fold-out copperplate with a design for a column in honor of the Polish Army. The copperplates, according to drawings by M. Stachowicz, a friend of the author, were engraved by Sebastian Langer. Traces of dampstaining, flooding, soiling and browning, page edges frayed with some tears and losses, book blocks loose, frontispiece with loss in upper inside corner, back cover of volume 2 missing. Rare.
