SIENKIEWICZ Henryk

WIRY

Vol. 1-2 [complete in 2 vols.].

Warsaw 1910, publ. by Gebethner & Wolff, pp. [6] 294; [6] 305, format:

HARD CLOTH BINDING WITH GILT. PAGE EDGES MARBLED.

The least known and one might say forgotten contemporary novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Written in 1910, the book is Sienkiewicz's response to the 1905 revolution, which the writer strongly condemned. The main plot of the book is the love of Wladyslaw Krzycki, a landed nobleman, for Englishwoman Agnes Anney, a woman considered by everyone to be a representative of the hated bourgeoisie. The background to the rather surprising love adventures are events and political motives related to the 1905 revolution. Through the book, Sienkiewicz points out the negative sides of both political camps, both left and right, without clearly advocating either side.

First edition!

BDB-/ condition, minor rubbing of the spine and corners of the binding, NICE Piece.
