SHAKESPEARE William - DRAMATIC WORKS of William Shakespeare (Shakespeare).
Illustrated edition decorated with 545 woodcuts of drawing by H. C. Selous. Translated by St. Koźmian, J. Paszkowski and L. Ulrich with the addition of a biography of the poet and explanations edited by J. I. Kraszewski.
The complete set of the most famous Polish edition of Shakespeare's works. Volume 1: Dramatas, Volume 2: Tragedies, Volume 3: Comedies. The edition comes with an extensive introduction, individual plays are preceded by several pages of commentaries, double-column printing, well-reproduced woodcut illustrations. 20 dramas are translated by Leon Ulrich (1811-1885), 13 by Jozef Paszkowski (1817-1861) and 4 by Stanislaw Egbert Koźmian. Koźmian and Ulrich spent many years in England emigrating after the November Uprising; Paszkowski, who was expelled from his school job after the uprising, translated Shakespeare in Warsaw and probably never spoke to an Englishman. The illustrations were done by H. C. Selous (1803-1890), an English painter, lithographer and illustrator who won high praise from the Victorian public for his illustrations of Shakespeare's works.
