Leon Reynel (1887-1931) - Polish economic activist, financier, writer. Initially associated with the leftist current of the PPS, he later became active as an independence activist. Using his contacts in the French financial world, he managed to interest French capitalists in Poland, resulting in a large loan from the French for the construction of a coal trunk line from Upper Silesia to the port of Gdynia.
Leon Reynel was a long-time friend of Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, although towards the end of his life the two broke off all relations. Witkacy met Reynel while he was still in St. Petersburg, where he was staying during the October Revolution. Reynel soon became his trusted friend - he regularly supported the artist materially, including giving him loans.
