The most impressive, beautiful edition of the novel for which the author received the Nobel Prize in Literature for 1924-and one of the most beautiful Polish illustrated books at the same time. Color plates, numerous monochrome embellishments in the text. The book is beautifully printed, in large type, on good paper.
The graphic side of the book is a joint work of Apoloniusz Kedzierski (1861-1939) and Zygmunt Kaminski (1888-1969). Kedzierski - a pupil of Brandt, Gerson and Aleksander Kaminski - created a series of 20 watercolors including landscapes and genre scenes of village life reproduced on color plates. Kaminski, a student of Mehoffer among others, a painter, draughtsman and printmaker, designed the cover, title page, initials and numerous graphic embellishments in the text with motifs taken from folk art. The works of the two artists complement each other perfectly, creating a substantial and thoughtful work from the graphic side.
