(Estr. T. 25). A work dedicated to Stanislaw Karnkowski (1520-1603), Archbishop and Primate of Poland, Grand Secretary of the Crown, political and religious writer. The offered work consists of 53 chapters. The initial chapters glorify the idea of God making the world subject and man in His image and likeness. In the following chapters, the author, referring primarily to Juan Huarte (c. 1530-1588), as well as the works of ancient philosophers, indicated what teachings should be passed on to students and when. In the final chapters, Possevino presented his own position on all the issues raised in the text. The engraving on p. 16 depicts the Passiflora (Passionflower) by Eugenio Petrelli - one of the earliest ever depictions of this plant on paper (the first was created by the monk Simone Parlasca in 1609). Antonio Possevino (1533-1611) - diplomat, papal legate, Jesuit, excellent speaker, scholar, theologian and organizer. At the request of the Pope, he went on a mission to Poland and Russia to reconcile Stefan Batorgo with Ivan the Terrible and end the armed conflict. He eventually led to the truce between the two sides at the Jama Zapolska in 1582. Good condition, discoloration and non-existent rubbing of the binding, non-. traces of browning on pages. B. rare. 9200/23
