PINSKY ROBERT - poet, essayist, critic and translator. Author of more than a dozen books of poetry, he made his debut in 1975 with the volume Sadness and Happiness. From 1997 to 2000 he served as Poet Laureate of the US Library of Congress. A remarkable fruit of this activity was the "Favorite Poem Project" campaign, during which he encouraged thousands of Americans to share a favorite poem. Several poetry anthologies were produced from these recordings, both in print and on video. He has translated, among others, Dante's Inferno and Czeslaw Milosz's Separate Notebook (together with Renata Gorczynska and Robert Hass). He teaches creative writing at Boston University.
