The work describes and, above all, illustrates religious ceremonies, customs and rituals among almost all peoples of the world, on the continents of Asia, Africa and America. An extremely richly illustrated work with copperplate engravings, the contents of which are sometimes cruel and sometimes very populous and ceremonial, at other times strange and mysterious customs. The work is based on Picart's Ceremonies published in Amsterdam between 1723 and 1743 and includes all the plates from these earlier editions. The text of this edition is revised and improved by Poncelin. copy uncut. Good condition. Rare.
