Doesn't the role of literature come down, according to current trends, to satisfying the needs of the mass reader looking for light and cheap entertainment? The literary currents accompanying the rise of liberal capitalism and geared toward easy consumption seem to answer this question in the affirmative. The novel The Awakening of Stach illustrates a different point of view. In addition to its philosophical content and subversiveness in the context of scientific interpretation of reality, the work is also distinguished by its artistic qualities, which are capable of satisfying picky reading tastes.
