Antoni Ferdynand Ossendowski - traveler, spy, adventurer, warrior, scholar, diplomat, polyglot, journalist and great erudite. Similar terms could be quoted endlessly. He is the second most famous Polish writer in the world after Henryk Sienkiewicz, as evidenced by 142 translations of his books into foreign languages. Ossendowski's most famous work, Through the Land of Men, Animals and Gods, is a record of his experiences as he fled from the Bolsheviks through Siberia, Mongolia and China during the civil war. The author gained the trust of Mongolian lamas and, under unusual circumstances, made the acquaintance of the famous "Bloody Baron" von Ungern-Sternberg, a Baltic German in the service of the Tsar, who intended to realize the ideas of creating a Panmongolian Empire on the territory of the Siberian colony of Tsarist Russia. Tearing his way through taiga, mountains and desert, Ossendovsky reached places where the foot of the white man had not yet set foot, and experienced the life of people who had been living in full symbiosis with nature and its great powers for centuries. Through the Land of People, Animals and Gods, a testimony to the author's authentic adventures and experiences, is written with such passion that it is difficult not to succumb to the magic of the expedition "to the depths of the hot political passions of the Asian cauldron."
