"The collection of Chopin's letters now published is the final realization of a project initiated in 1923 by the Publishing Institute "Polish Library" in Warsaw. However, the material collected by me at that time on the order of the Institute did not live to see publication due to the suspension of the publishing house. This delay of thirteen years has, however, in the end had a good effect, since it made it possible to supplement the collection with a considerable number of letters which were only later disclosed, so that the present publication presents the most complete possible compilation of Chopin's correspondence known to this day." /Preface/ Henryk Opieński.
