The centennial of Tadeusz Kosciuszko's death, celebrated on October 15, 1917, became the pretext for organizing a national holiday. With the approval of the German authorities, who wished to gain favor with the Poles, ceremonial parades, concerts and galas were held throughout the General Government. The central celebration was organized by the Executive Department of the Kosciuszko Committee in Warsaw, which encouraged Poles to participate in the festivities.
