JAKOB M[ojesz] - In commemoration of the Constitution of the 3rd of May 1791, written by ..., an actual teacher of the Mosaic religion at the public schools in Gorlice. For the children of Israel. Gorlice 1891; printed by. J. Knapik. 17d, pp. 14, 30. broch.
Spine covered with paper, covers stained, minor stains inside. Polish and Yiddish text. Work dedicated in print to Gorlice chairman Wojciech Biechoński (1839-1926), officer of the January Uprising, member of the National Government. The booklet was written in the spirit of Polish patriotism. Summarizing the considerations, the author writes: "Thus the Constitution of the 3rd of May bequeathed to us both: devotion and love towards the homeland and the monarch, as well as mutual love of all states, which brings honor to the Polish name in the presence of the entire world." Moses Jakob (1857-1931), after a period of teaching in Gorlice, taught in Cracow. Among other things, he became famous for his reconstruction of the Herodian Temple in Jerusalem from the time of Christ. He worked on this project from 1878 to 1928, and presented it in his apartment at 23 Zielona St. to Bishop Adam Stefan Sapieza, Rev. Prof. Jozef Archutowski, Prof. Felix Copera, Rabbi Ozyas Thon and thousands of students, among others. The pamphlet presented here is rare; Estreicher's bibliography (E.XIX 12, 166) locates only one piece of it.
