Neugebauer (1821-1890), Kalisz-born gynecologist and obstetrician, one of the founders of Polish and Russian gynecology, lecturer at the Warsaw Central School, professor at the University of Warsaw. He came from a Lower Silesian evangelical family settled in the Kalisz area since the late 17th century. He initially received his education at the gymnasium in Brzeg, later at the University of Wrocław. He was active in Breslau, Kalisz and Warsaw. He developed new methods of treatment and constructed new surgical instruments. He was the author of more than 175 scientific papers written in Latin, German, Polish and Russian. Neugebauer was also among the authors of the entries in Orgelbrand's Encyclopedia, and was an honorary member of the Poznan Society of Friends of Science.
