Adam Naruszewicz undertook the task of describing the rise and fall of the Polish state in the spirit of Enlightenment historiography. Associated with the party of King Stanislaw August, the author emphasized in his work the positive role of monarchical power in Polish history and the negative impact of the swagger and liberties of the nobility. The distinguishing feature of Naruszewicz's work was their excellent source base, based on a gigantic search, which resulted in the so-called Naruszewicz's Teki - a collection of copies of tens of thousands of documents, compiled at the will of King Stanislaw August. Testimony to the innovative approach to writing history was the inclusion in each volume, in addition to political history, the history of culture, political system, society and economy. Adam Naruszewicz did not complete his great historiographical work, bringing the argument to the moment of King Wladyslaw Jagiello's accession to the throne.
