Lolita - an English-language novel by Vladimir Nabokov, written between 1947 and 1953, published in 1955 in Paris. The work tells the story of a man fascinated by immature girls, whom he refers to as "nymphets," and his erotic obsession with his twelve-year-old stepdaughter Dolores Haze (the Lolita of the title). The subject of pedophilia caused the novel to be regarded as a scandalous and pornographic work for many years, and the author had trouble getting it published.
