"It only remains for us to add a few words as to the disposition of the book we are publishing here. We have divided its cover into two parts, placing strictly scientific writings in the first, and including letters, poems and writings of various content in the second. We have exercised a certain restraint in the selection of works to be published in Polish translation, in order not to increase the volume of the book too much on the one hand, and on the other hand, to give the generally educated reader the most important works of the master, or the most essential parts of these works. We have omitted Copernicus' strictly mathematical deductions as a rule, limiting ourselves, where this could not be avoided, only to considerations that are quite elementary and accessible to everyone."
